blog-spring-improvements-on-a-budgetAs Spring quickly approaches it’s the perfect time for not only “cleaning” out your house but an opportunity to give the outside a bit of a “facelift”! Has nothing to do with getting ready to sell your house – just that you want update the outside and give it a new fresh look! These are super easy ideas – not that costly but immediate effects!

blog mailbox FRONT DOOR- If you already have a super fancy door then ignore this. But any plain wood door can benefit from a coat of paint. It will be an instant “eye lift” and your door will thank you! Go to your neighborhood paint store and ask them to recommend a brand of paint for doors. Get some sample sheets. If your house is earth tone or white you obviously have a blank canvas for door colors. Make sure its subtle enough though that the neighbors don’t get excited. Yellows, Dark Earth Tones, Muted Oranges, there are so many choices that will immediately change the appearance and tone of your house!

NEW MAILBOX- After going to a neighborhood meeting and finding out from a Sheriff that it would be a great idea to have a mailbox that locks I did some research and found one on line from local company. It was a few hundred dollars but the sucker will never rust and is totally professional looking. Screams out “Do Not Touch Me- I am indestructible! “

LANDSCAPING– Nothing says “I love you house” more than beautiful landscaping. Not necessarily professionally done – just what YOU like! For example my new favorite thing “The Butterfly Garden”… Just go to your local nursery and ask them what they recommend for Monarch Butterflies to love your home. Lantana is one little plant – there are many others. We did last year and with a little love (see above) we planted, fed and nurtured these plants. Even when we were planting we had a small invasion of Monarch Butterflies! It just FELT like great luck! I plan to expand it this year! We also had to small Olive Trees- the non bearing fruit ones that have grown like weeds and frame the house beautifully!

FOUNTAINS – There are so many sizes, shapes, and costs of fountains. The one above is several years olf and has only had one motor. Set your fountain on a timer and for a few hours a day it flows magically! Again the birds smile while they bathe themselves and for a few hours a day you have good Chi. Flow and all!

Prioritize – do a little at a time! Or do a lot! You will love the new touches and so will your house!!
